I was doing some research on some statistics regarding second homes and non-owner occupied homes and I came across this interesting article. Mind you, it was posted May 2006, so it is a bit dated, but the numbers are interesting.
"Analysis fo U.S. Census Bureau data shows there are 6.8 million vacation homes in the United States and 37.4 million investmetn units in addition to 74.6 million owner-occupied units."
It also gives a profile of the average Second Home Owner, which you might find interesting as well.
